Built to last

Fine art paper, framed canvas, gallery canvas. Materials that hold up to a long time on the wall.

01. How a portrait happens

Three steps · the studio process
One.

Upload a clear photo of your pet.

A single photograph. Daylight, near eye-level if you can. We'll tell you on the next screen if it isn't quite right.

Two.

Choose from three considered styles.

Renaissance noble. Royal regalia. Classical oil. Three distinct visual registers, each painted to live on a wall.

Three.

See your proof in under a minute.

Yours to keep on screen. Or order it on canvas, framed canvas, or archival paper, shipped from the studio.

03. The ones we've painted so far

In their own words

A handful of families have let us paint a pet they were grieving, or simply one they wanted to keep in the room with them. These are their words.

Bruno, painted as 18th-century French atelier portrait
The Atelier

Bruno passed in March. Having him painted like this changed how the room feels. Quiet, dignified. Thank you.

Saskia, painted as Baroque royal court portrait
The Sovereign

Saskia is fifteen and the friendliest creature I have ever known. She gets a regalia portrait. She deserves it.

Marcel, painted as Baroque royal court portrait
The Sovereign

I cried a little when it arrived. Marcel looks like a small king. The frame is heavier than I expected, in a good way.

04. The story

How it started

It started in our favorite dog café in Amsterdam.

We were sitting in our favorite dog café in Amsterdam when my partner pulled a book off the shelf. Dog, by Tein Lucasson. We turned the pages and stopped on a portrait that felt like every serious painting we'd ever loved. Except it was a dog. We looked at each other and said the same thing. We need this at home.

Nothing like it existed for our own dog. Zola is a small, serious princess of a creature, and no studio would paint her in that register. So we built one. My background is in AI images. Ours is a love of dogs, and one in particular.

We named the studio Maison Zola because Zola already runs the house. The rest of us just live in it.

05. Common questions

Timing, materials, photographs

Will it actually look like my pet?

Yes. The painting is traced from your photograph. Eyes, markings, ears, the parts that made them them. If something is off, we redo it.

What if my photograph isn't ideal?

We'll tell you. The studio scores every uploaded photo and suggests another shot if the result won't meet our standard. Re-uploading is free, and we'll work with what you have.

What if I don't love the result?

Tell us within thirty days. We will remake it or refund. Your choice. We never put you in a replacement loop.

What does it cost?

A digital file from $29 (free during our launch). Archival fine art print from $49. Gallery canvas from $299. Framed canvas from $399. Free worldwide shipping.

How long until the printed piece arrives?

Standard delivery is 4 to 7 business days in the US, 5 to 10 in the UK, 7 to 14 internationally. Express is available at checkout. We will not rush a tribute order to meet an arbitrary deadline.

Do you keep my photograph?

We keep it for thirty days so we can re-render or fulfil an order, then we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner from your order page.

Can I order a tribute portrait of more than one pet?

Single-pet portraits at launch. Multi-pet and pet-with-owner are in the studio and will follow.

Can I commission a different style than the three in the Catalogue?

The Catalogue is fixed for launch. If there is a register you'd like us to consider for a tribute piece, write to us.
